Bangkok is often cited as the street food capital of the world. The aromas of grilling pork, spicy soups, and fresh herbs fill the air. Here is your guide to the most delicious eats.
1. Pad Thai
The classic. You’ll find it everywhere, but for a legendary experience, head to Thipsamai. Wrapped in an egg omelet, it’s a step above the rest.
2. Jay Fai’s Crab Omelet
The only street food stall with a Michelin star. Be prepared to wait, but the massive, fluffy crab omelet is legendary.
3. Som Tum (Papaya Salad)
Spicy, sour, sweet, and savory. This salad is a flavor explosion. Ask for “mai phet” (not spicy) if you can’t handle the heat!
4. Moo Ping (Grilled Pork Skewers)
The ultimate breakfast or snack on the go. Juicy, marinated pork grilled over charcoal, usually served with sticky rice.
5. Mango Sticky Rice
The perfect dessert. Ripe, sweet mango served with glutinous rice topped with coconut milk. Mae Varee in Thong Lo is famous for this.
Tip: Chinatown (Yaowarat)
For the highest concentration of amazing street food, go to Yaowarat Road at night. It transforms into a neon-lit food paradise.
6. Boat Noodles
Rich, flavorful broth with noodles, meat, and herbs. Visit Victory Monument for “Boat Noodle Alley” where you can stack up small bowls.
